Hymns + Prayers

On Advent Sunday 2020, Bishop Graham Usher launched a new Vision for the Diocese of Norwich and shared with us the words above. A range of resources has been offered to support each year’s focus and, as part of that resourcing, I have written three hymns each set to already well-known tunes. .

The Diocese of Norwich’s current vision statement is Transformed by Christ: Prayerful, Pastoral, Prophetic. To support the ‘Prayerful’ focus in the Vision’s first year, I chose a prayer a day (from across the Christian traditions) during Lent 2022. And in fact, because I decided to include the six Sundays of Lent and to end with Easter Day itself, that was actually 47 (not 40) prayers! I wrote a brief reflection about each prayer and combined it with music and art.

I was asked to translate Bishop Jonson's words so that this hymn could be sung in both Swedish and English during an international ecumenical celebration in Stockholm Cathedral, August 2025.

A hymn for any/every time of the year as well as for the Season of Creation. (1st September to 4th October incl.)
